Have you ever noticed when you make a task you have given your child into a competition, his or her motivation to complete the task increases tenfold? Have you noticed when you assign a metric to a task, such as time to complete, or a score, your child’s desire to complete the task is suddenly engaged?
At Odessa Soccer Club, we believe when a layer of competition is added to team sports, a child’s motivation increases dramatically. When teams compete against each other to achieve their goal to win a game, a season, or a championship, growth occurs more than when children are participating in a recreation league.
Life is about setting goals and striving to reach them. It's natural for impediments to regularly get in the way of accomplishing goals. In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul tells us that trials help develop endurance, endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens confidence (Romans 5:3-4).
Hall of Famer and former National Champion college basketball coach, Tom Izzo, recently said “We’re creating a system that we’re never teaching a kid how to fight through [trials]," (Vannini, 2016).
We believe it is important to teach our players that achievement doesn’t come easy and to reach goals, they must learn to apply persistence, drive, and tenacity. Competition in team sports demands persistence, drive, and tenacity. At Odessa Soccer Club, when a player is awarded a medal, it is because he or she earned it!
Our league improves on the benefits of recreation team sports – physical activity, social experience, personal development – by applying competition. Since there are no tryouts, players from every skill level can pursue the thrill of competition. Experiencing a season at Odessa Soccer Club will lead players to aspire to improve. This aspiration for improvement will help develop a positive attitude, positive energy, and confidence that will carry over to every aspect of their life.
I invite you to allow your child to pursue this positive experience with Odessa Soccer Club where Competition breeds Character and Character breeds Confidence.
All the Best,
Odessa Soccer Club
